Applicant Qualifications and Work Qualifications

Applicant Qualifications

  1. Must be a Thai designer (e.g., freelance designer, design team, design studio, etc.) or an agency, association, organization, or enterprise in Thailand (both public and private sectors) or a juristic person legally registered in Thailand, divided into 3 categories:
    1. Apply as a Designer, Design Team, or Design Studio (Designer)
      • Applicants who are designers, design companies, or design studios must have a consent letter/power of attorney from the owner of the work/product/service
    2. Apply as an Entrepreneur

      (e.g., design company / design studio, etc.)

      • Certificate of juristic person registration with Thai shareholders holding more than 50%
    3. Apply as an Organization/Agency/Institute (both public and private sectors in Thailand)
      • Applicants who are agencies or organizations must have a consent letter from the designer / design company / product owner to apply
  2. Applicants who are designers, design companies, or design studios providing design services must have a consent letter/power of attorney from the owner of the work/product/service
  3. One applicant can submit more than 1 work but not exceeding 5 works per category, and must prepare complete application documents for all works
  4. For applicants in the Interior Design category, the following supporting documents are required:
    • Professional architecture license
    • Business license according to the type of business submitted for the competition

Work Qualifications

  1. Work designed by "Thai designers/Thai companies" or Thai products/works designed by "foreign designers for Thai companies"
  2. Work produced in industrial, semi-industrial, or handicraft systems as specified
  3. Single piece or series/collection
  4. Work that is already available for sale and has commercial results in domestic or international markets
  5. For non-product works, must be publicly released/published

Award Judging Criteria

(1) Design Story

  • Design origin and concept (Design Concept/Design Thinking)
  • Design strategy for market launch (Design to Market Strategy)
  • Concept utilizing cultural capital for value creation (Cultural Heritage Values)

(2) Innovative Thinking

  • Creativity
  • Prototype different from what has existed before (Novelty)
  • Future Impact
  • Use of production technology/techniques and new production methods (Use of technology/Technique/New method)

(3) Emotional/Aesthetics

  • Aesthetics
  • Enhancing Living Lifestyle

(4) User Value

  • Good functionality (Utilization)
  • Convenience/Comfortable and Ease of use or Storage
  • Satisfying Consumer's Needs
  • Safety in use or production process (Safety)
  • Universal Design or Specific Design
  • Stimulus to the User's Creative thinking

(5) Social and Environmental Value

  • Long Lifetime/Durability
  • Socially Responsible
  • Environmentally-Friendly
  • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Documents for Exhibition Display

Applicants must prepare the following information:

1. Presentation Board

Applicants who pass the first round selection for exhibition display must prepare their own presentation board for the following 3 categories:

  1. Graphic & Communication Design
  2. System Service & Digital Platform
  3. Interior Design
  • Prepare an A1 size board (841x594 mm) in portrait orientation (in English), any material, with the following information:
    • Summary of design concept
    • High-quality images of the work and its usage
    • Key Features and highlights of the work

2. Prepare A3 Landscape Document (in English) for Interior Design category only, with the following information:

  • Summary of design concept and key aspects of the work
  • Interior and exterior photographs
  • Floor plan
  • Structure details and building type
  • Photographs and descriptions showing the relationship with the surrounding environment

Note:

  • Applicants must be the lawful copyright holder and owner of the copyright in the work submitted to the competition, or must hold written consent from the designer to submit the work to the DEmark Award.
  • All or any part of the work submitted to the DEmark Award must not infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of any other person.
  • If the work is later found to infringe copyright, it shall be the sole responsibility of the applicant, and if it has been selected to receive an award, the award shall be deemed void.
  • Award winners grant the organizer the right to use, display, or publish all award-winning works through various media channels (without any compensation).
